SAP Analytics Cloud for planning with Data Warehouse Cloud - Data Import still neccessary?

Hi friends,

with the features of the DWC we don't need a model within the SAC. We can directly access the Reporting View inside DWC and build our Story. Super cool!

But what about SAC planning. Usually we need to import data into the SAC model and build our planning scenario on that model. Can we do planning without aqcuiring the data by using the DWC connection?

Looking forward for your answers.

Thnaks in advance,

Ismail

My feeling is that with SAC / DWC there are more restrictions than ever before. I don't know how many old and new variants there are now in SAC all working in parallel, optimized mode, old mode, new story mode, old mode, new model, classic model, new explorer, old explorer and with planning it's way more replication than needed. Besically SAP should have thought about a central storage in a DWH before designing all that and maybe SAP should have also take a look at lumira before designing a story and an application mode in SAC (that's exactly the same story with lumira - I see no learning curve at all). It's like knowing doing something bad and redesigning it after that although this was absolute obvious the first approach is nonsense.

But back to topic. Is the final goal that the replication will not be necessary anymore for SAC Planning and SAC can use the data in DWC directly or will we always have this kind of three way synchronisation if FI-CO Data is used the replication back to ACDOCA / ACDOCP is also needed. At least the masterdata replication is unbelievable old fashioned (especially hierarchies with 3! loads)

Hi Ismail,

Like SAC BI, it's not possible to build a planning scenario without Planning model. If you have the data in DWC as Analytical dataset or Analytic model with expose for consumption, then you can create a ODATA connection and directly create a planning model so that you can build the scenario.

Note: Creating model by using the dataset will allow you create Classic Account model but not Universal model

Thanks,

Hi Ismail,

As far as I know all the SAC planning models will require importing the data independently of which DataSource/Connection you are using. A different story applies, as you rightly mentioned, if you are working with Analytic models in which case your model can reside in DWC.

Hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Pedro
