BDC introduces a business data fabric — a governed, semantic layer that connects SAP and non-SAP data without heavy replication. It preserves business meaning (measures, hierarchies, dimensions) from source systems like S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, and Ariba, so context is never lost when data moves into analytics or AI.
BDC brings together several existing SAP products under one roof:
- SAP Datasphere — data integration, federation, modeling, and cataloging
- SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) — BI dashboards, financial/operational planning, and predictive analytics
- SAP HANA Cloud — the in-memory database and processing engine
- SAP BW / BW/4HANA — data warehouse capabilities and migration path for legacy BW customers
- Databricks & Snowflake — open data ecosystem for data engineering, ML, and advanced AI.
