Hi All,
I am working on the Trip approval workflow and have maintained the approver with a position in the org unit. The Requestor is one level down to this approver and creates Trips. When the approver goes on leave he maintains a position substitute as his successor. I am using position substitutes for the Approver. The position substitute has its own PERNR allotted to it with respective user-name.
Now after maintaining the above, when the requestor creates a trip it goes to the approver's inbox and when I check the substitute inbox I cannot see the work items of the approver. I am not sure whether am I missing something as part of the position substitute maintenance. Appreciate your inputs if somebody have already worked on this.
Thanks,
Jag.
Request clarification before answering.
Check your workflow routing. Do you send the work item to the approver using a position or by user ID?
Position substitutes will only work for position based agent determination.
Cheers,
Mike
Edit: Just to clarify, sending work items to someone using the personnel number should also still take position based substitute into account. It is only for user IDs that they don't work.
I may be wrong, or this may have changed. I encountered this behaviour some time ago on 4.7 or earlier where we had a mixed environment of position and ID based workflows. The best practice is to stick to one method across all your workflows.

Well Thanks a lot for your inputs.
The workflow maintenance and setup were all fine and working, but the problem is with the evaluation path being used by standard process to retrieve the work items. Generally in case of substitutes using positions systems uses this path to find the original agent and his work items. The path gives the relation between individual org unit and thus helps to retreive the data. In my case the relation between position to pernr/user was not available and so need to maintain in T777AW to get it worked.
Is the substitution active?

Martin

HI,
DId you check to see if the EXCLUDED AGENTS include the WF_INITIATOR or so.
Or else also, i remember a while back we were trying out on the Substitution rules and If i am correct, i observed that if A is substitute for B and if A submits a witem to B, then A will not receive that witem. He will receive only if anyother than A submits a witem to B.
Please debug the corresponding FM's and let me also know.
But, I'm sure we had this test and observation. May be your debugging will help in reassuring what we observed.
Hope this helps..

Hi,
I think I remember this during my work. The WF_INITIATOR,by default, is prevented from approving his own trips. But, in your case, he is not even getting the witems, you said, right ?
Try assigning some other user id for the Approver's substitute and see if he receives the witems.
Goodluck
