Our Crystal Configuration is shown above.
We are required to remediate Java versions that have vulnerabilities. For our implementation, the version that needs remediation is at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\sapjvm\bin\java.exe
It is 1.8.0_241 and must be one of 1.7.0_301 / 1.8.0_291 / 1.11.0_11 / 1.16.0_1.
First, I am assuming that Java is indeed needed.
Next, how can it be upgraded? Can we just upgrade Java or does it require a new release of Crystal Reports.
Thanks.

You can try but if CR requires it for some reason Microsoft's installer will put it back on, actually it's the CR Manifest in the setup routines that does it but..
Go to help.sap.com and look for the PAM, in there you'll find the version that gets installed and updated to.
You can also upgrade to the latest SP 9, you are using SP 8 patch and see if that updates the JVM.
Go here to get the latest: https://origin.softwaredownloads.sap.com/public/site/index.html
Actually we use our own version of SAP Java due to licensing Oracle has placed on Java licensing.
