Return code: SMTP 535 - Authentication failed (bad user name or password)

Hi All,

My system was running smoothly all along for several years no, suddenly last 15 Aug 2019 pm, I started to have this issue stated in the subject line.

I checked and double checked user name, password, smtp configuration. gmail account, everything is correct and in order.

Still im having failed to send messages as per issue stated above.

Can help me by giving another area to look into.

Possible source of the error.

Can you please name the SAP product where you are facing this problem?

Knowing the product name helps to better tag this thread so the proper experts can take a look at it.

We using BO XI 3.1 and we met the same issue at the same date (15 august 2019), it worked since years without issue.

We cannot send reports anymore, the error message is as below :

login error. [CrystalEnterprise.Smtp]: [Authentication failed with [Login] authentication protocol. Return code: [SMTP 535 - Authentication failed (bad user name or password).].]

• The username & password we using is correct
• I tested The username & password in Gmail web version
• I tested The username & password from MS-DOS a telnet to smtp-gmail.com (with base64 encryption for username and password) from our servers and I can send mail to users.

So Reports cannot be sent from our both servers BO XI 3.1 (12.1.0.882) and other BO XI 3.1 (12.6.4.1266), from 2 different locations (not same internet line), both use STunnel, and both get this issue at same day.

We have another server with version BO XI 4.1, using Stunnel with same Gmail account and it is not impacted, all reports pass through.

Hi Kaushik,

Checked, re entered all the credentials. Tried this several times. Same issue with our India and China office.

Still we couldn't make it work.

Ended up getting third party software to do the job.

Thank you for your inputs. But i believe this would be the end of service of BO in our group.
