Do I need extensive knowledge in coding to learn ABAP?

I am currently doing an internship as an SAP consultant, the tasks are now mainly those of a function consultant but I want to be able to understand the technical part (like the bugs of the system, the settings...etc), I want to get an in depth understanding of SAP, I feel it would help me more during my work.

I have no knowledge in coding except for basic knowledge regarding algorithms but I never coded. Is it impossible for me to learn ABAP without prior coding knowledge? Can I learn by myself? If yes, where do I need to start?
