Hi,
Following with the original questions: difference between R/3, ECC, etc ... I am still confused with ERP and ECC concepts.
If ECC is part of ERP,what is included in ECC? what else is included in ERP that is not in ECC?
What is the difference between ECC and ERP?
When I check the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) I can see links to "SAP ERP 6.0" and "SAP ECC 6.0". In both pages I can see a "Product Home Page" link which is the same in both cases (service.sap.com/erp).
For example, in an Upgrade with 4.7 as a source release, the target version is ECC 5/6.0 or ERP 5/6.0? At this moment to me is the same, but I am still confused with the concept. Thanks a lot.
Regards

HI Alvaro,
The answer to your question is probably one of technicalities and semantics.
ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning - integrated business management system (includes all aspects and computerization methods that are needed to effectively plan and manage a business).
SAP ECC stands for ERP Central Component and just represents a technical name that is really only relevant for customers that are upgrading from lower level releases. That is, the evolution from R/3 4.7 -> R/3 Enterprise -> SAP ERP.
So, in reality, there really is no difference between ECC and ERP.
Best Regards,
Matt
Hi Matt,
As far as I know about technical differences:
R/3 4.7 is based on Web AS 6.20
ECC 5 is based on [Web AS 6.40|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/84/54953fc405330ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm] (Netweaver 04)
ECC 6 is based on Netweaver 7.0
as their technology platform which provide complete administration ,development and runtime environment for SAP applications.
Netweaver provides ECC 5 and 6 the inbuilt functionality of open integration of processes (via XI) and information (via BI, MDM) across a heterogeneous landscape.
How accurate am I and what other major differences am I missing here?
