Cloud Migration Approach SAP BO Objects

Hi All,

There are plans to migrate SAP BO to AWS cloud. Unfortunately we are sitting on very old version of BO 3.1

Can you please suggest whether migration BO 3.1 to 4x on premise and then lift and shift to cloud will be a better approach or migrate BO 3.1 to cloud and then upgrade within the cloud to BO 4x ?

Not sure how stable the version 3.1 is . Suspecting it will have issues if put into cloud . Please kindly suggest if you have come across such experience in your IT landscape.

Install BI 4.2 in your cloud.
Make sure its functional. That all required DB connectivities are working.
Migrate content from Xi3.1 to this 4.2 deployment.
Upgrade BI 4.2 in the cloud to current BI version , which is BI 4.3 Sp2+

Thank You Denis. This info was really helpful. There was debate going whether to upgrade from 3.x to 4.x before thinking to move them on cloud. Though we know that 3.x is very outdated, we werent able to stress the fact that why it is more important to upgrade in first place rather just put 3.x version in cloud and then upgrade. Your information has come really come handy .Thanks again

One more query if you don't mind.

Can we not have BO 4.3 installed on cloud rather going to 4.2 first and later upgrade to 4.3?

Are there any limitation on why we can't go for 4.3 from BO XI 3.1?

there is no direct path to migrate content from XI3.1 to BI 4.3 sp2+

Hi Denis , quick help on DB connectivities info please. If we upgrade to 4.2 and if one of our db application used by business for their day to work has very old version like Oracle 10/11 or Sql Server 2005/2008 . Will they still be able to plug in BO and extract data ?

we dont want to upgrade the db's that are on the business side.This be an overhead . Is there a way like, tweaking db drivers that will enable BO 4.3 to still connect with these old business db versions ?

you'll have to ask that from the DB vendors - do their current drivers backward compatible to older versions of their DB's ?
