Functions as a service (beta), a fully-managed service for building, running, and managing functions has been available since October 2018 as a beta offering. However, after a week’s time of release of this blog, it will be sunset as based on SAP’s revised cloud strategy, Function as a Service is already available for productive use as a part of SAP Extension Factory, serverless runtime.
SAP Extension Factory, serverless runtime consists of the following:

SAP Extension Factory, serverless runtime consists of the following:
- Extension Center - a management UI
- The Extension Center is provided as a business application. After you have created a service instance for Extension Factory, serverless runtime, you need to Subscribe to the Extension Center business application. Choose the Go to Application link to access the user interface.
- Manage your extensions.
- Functions-as-a-Service for serverless code execution
- You can create an instance of serverless function by following Create extensions using the extension center. After creating an extension, you can add functions to enhance your business logic.
- Function Programming Model – the style of programming need to be adopted to develop functions
- OData Provisioning to connect to ABAP Backend systems via SAP Gateway / OData
