Hi phillip,
The transaction code MM06 mainly speaks about "Flag material for deletion"
this transaction is mainly used when a plant has determined that a material is no longer required and does not want to have the materila ordered for future issuances.
path: Logistics -> MM -> material master -> Material -> Flag for deletion -> MM06 -immediately
Before doing the material has to be extended to the plant.
This is one way of changing the status of the material.
We can also change the status of the material through Tcode MM02
this transaction code is mainly used for changing the information in the material master
We can change the status of the material (blocked) in two ways
Plant specific materail status
In the plant specific material master this field appears on the costing screen, MRP screen,Purchasing screen, and work scheduling screen
By setting the indicator we are blocking the material with respect to a prticular plant
Cross plant material status:
In the standard material master this field appears in the basic data screen.
Setting this indicator blockes the material at the client level
The material can be blocked for use in certain sales activities by assigning pne or both of the following statuses to it
Distribution specific materail status
Cross distribution chain material status
In the standard material master both these fields appear on Sales organization data screen. The Cross distribution chain material status is valid at the client level.
This is the difference between the two transaction code
Hope you got the required informartion. In case of any additional information please do get back.

In mm02 if you block the material in basic data then the material blocked at client level and if you put blocking indicator in purchasing view then material is blocked only in the particular plant.
And you can remove the blocking indicator at any point of time where as once you have deleted the material in mm06 you can't reactivate it.
thank you

Hi
In MM06 U mark material for deletion i.e if the material is no more in use ( When u archive such materials those will be removed from sysytem)
Whereas in Material status u can mark material for specific trnxs. like For procurement.BOM creation etc.
here we are not deleting materials

Hi,
Via MM06 you mark your mmr for deletion (archiving), via MM02 + material statuses you restrict the use of them.
