From the security audit log documentation.

"The Security Audit Log is a tool designed for auditors, among others, who need to take a detailed look at what occurs in the SAP System. By activating the audit log, you keep a record of those activities you consider relevant for auditing. You can then access this information for evaluation in the form of an audit analysis report."

The role of the security admin may be activating and monitoring the log. Working with appropriate parties to determine what should be logged.

The log can log transaction usage, RFC and reports among other items.

Look at transactions SM18, SM19 and SM20. There is also a documented SECAUDLOGONLINE_EN.pdf (try googling it) which contains useful information on the subject.

Cheers,

Ben
