Major problems installing GUI v7.30

Hi folks,

Has anyone else had any issues installing version 7.30 of the SAP GUI?

It just will not install for me.  I have a little over 300 PCs to upgrade, mainly from v7.20 to v7.30 with a small number from v7.10 to v7.30.

I have tried every single different scenario I can think of:

1) Out of the box PCs

2) Installing 7.30 over 7.10

3) Installing 7.30 over 7.20

4) Removing 7.10 before installing 7.30

5) Removing 7.20 before installing 7.30

6) Remote installations

7) Manual "at the PC" installations

😎 Installing logged in as a Domain Admin

9) Running the .exe as Domain Admin but logged in as the power user

10) Uninstalling previous version and removing all traces of SAP before installing 7.30 (registry/directories)

11) Switching off Anti-Virus before installing

12) Attempted installations on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP.

13) Attempted installations on both 32 bit and 64 Windows Operating Systems.

The end result has now been the same on 22 out of 24 attempts.  The installation finishes with 231 errors (always 231) and when I try run the software I get the following message:

"The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

I have raised this issue with SAP, followed a long list of instructions whilst some debugging software is running to collect data.  I've sent the log files to them to which they reply and tell me that the log file states the software was installed correctly.  Which is WRONG!!

And besides, even if it did, it's unacceptable to have to perform these actions (taking over an hour) to install the latest GUI over 300 times!!

Since then, SAP have gone quiet.  I don't want to try anymore until I fix this.

The 2 out of the 24 that worked were identical to 6 of the PCs that failed (both in hardware and software, even down to Windows Updates!).  There seems to be no pattern.

Has anyone out there experienced issues installing 7.30?

Hi Paul,

I have been responsible for upgrading to GUI 730 in my organisation for over 1000 SAP users.

It was not a big issue distributing the GUI installables .Also there was no issue with the installation for any user.

I followed the below steps for creating the installable:

1.Execute the file NwCreateInstServer.exe from the SETUP folder of the compilation.
(\50113858_6\NW_7.0_Presentation_\PRES1\GUI\WINDOWS\WIN32\Setup)

2.Choose Next to continue.
You can choose Cancel at any stage to abort the process.
3.NWCreateInstServer.exe prompts you to supply the path where you want to create the installation server.
4.Enter the folder name manually or use Browse to navigate to the folder you want to create the installation server. Make sure the folder is empty.
5.Choose Verify to make sure that the chosen folder meets the prerequisites:
•It must exist.
•It must be accessible to the administrator with full access.
6.Choose Next to continue.
   You see a screen indicating that the server is being created.
7.Once the installation is complete,
If you have .NET Framework version 4 installed, choosing Close automatically starts NWSAPSetupAdmin.exe from the recently updated installation server.
OR
After you have successfully set up the installation server, you can find NWSAPSetupAdmin.exe in the SETUP directory of the installation server.
Execute  NWSAPSetupAdmin.exe
Note: NWSAPSetupAdmin.exe requires the .NET Framework 4 to be installed as a prerequisite. You can download the .NET Framework from:

8.NwSapSetupAdmin.exe opens up
9.For Creating a New Installation Package , choose New Package from the toolbar.
10.The Package Creation Wizard appears. To continue, choose Next.
11.The wizard displays components available on the installation server.
        Select the products that you want to add to your package
The green plus signs next to the product names indicate that these products will be installed when the user installs the package on his or her workstation.
12.Choose Next.
13.You are prompted for a package name.
      Enter a name and choose Next.
14.NWSAPSetupAdmin.exe now creates a package and confirms the successful creation.
     To return to NWSAPSetupAdmin.exe, choose Close.
15.The newly created package is now visible in the Package View.
16.Using NwSapSetupAdmin.exe, we can create single-file self-installing .exe-packages. Such a package contains only those files that belong to the components that are a part of the package created.
17.In the Packages tree, right-click the package you want to create a self-installing file from, and choose Compress Package To Single-File Installer.
18.Following the wizard instructions, you will get a single exe-self-extractor at the end of the process.

After the last step, you can upload the EXE file at a location where your users can download and install it from.

We were successful in able to rollout GUI 730 the above way.
