Visual Composer Roadmap

Hi,

What is roadmap for Visual Composer?

Is it true that SAP is not planning to provide any new enhancements in Visual Composer and technology will be obsolete in the future same as WD Java which was replaced by WD ABAP?

If this is the case, what would be alternative technology for designing graphs, charts, statistics rapidly?

We need to design simple statistics (graphs, pie charts) based on data in ECC. Would it be advisable to use VC for this purpose?

As far I know, sap will not completely stop supporting WDJ & VC from now on...These are/will be supported atleast till 2018 (long way to go...)..In between there will be enhancements/bug fixes but may not be any major overhauling...

So in my opinion, if you are planning to build charts/graphs using VC, then go ahead..I do not see any issues with this..

May be someone from SAP can provide us some more inputs..

Hi All,

Here is the most up to date information regarding this:

1. Visual Composer is fully supported by SAP. It will continue to be supported as long as NetWeaver 7.30/7.31 is supported, as it is delivered as part of these deliveries. Therefor - an investment you make in Visual Composer (of Web Dynpro Java) is secure for the upcoming years.

2. A years back, we announced that Visual Composer has completed its roadmap and will not get any major modifications, other than those which are based on customer feedback. In the past year (or so) we have been getting constant customer feedback that an HTML5 runtime for Visual Composer is very desirable (esp. relevant to mobile RAD scenarios). This feedback has been received both through the customer connection program and through the ASUG UI Influence council.

3. As a result of this - we have started working on implementing an HTML5 runtime for Visual Composer, based on SAP's SAPUI5 HTML5 library. This is not (yet) a hard comittment that we will actually deliver this - just an outlook to you to know that this is something we are looking into and happily coding.

4. As per your original question - Creating a simple screen on top of ECC with some 'graphics' is something which Visual Composer (maybe combined with Xcelcius) is more than capable of handling.

Hope this helps,

Yariv
