Version Compatibility Between BI and BO

Hi Experts,

Please help me which version of SAP-BO is more comparable for SAP-BI 7.0.1 version.

My SAP-BI version is SAP EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0.1.

Software --SAP_BW

Release-- 701

Level --0009

Higher Support --SAPKW70109--SAP Business Warehouse

Operating system --HP-UX
  

please suggest me which version is comparable.And Why ?

And I want to install SAP-BO in a separate server (means not in the same server of SAP-BI).

So Please suggest what are the precautions we have to take?

Hi,

this is a very rough guideline based on my experience of customer deployments over the years:

• 2009-2011 :   BW 7.01 SP05-SP09+   with  BOE XI3.1 SP03-SP05+
• 2011-2012/3 :  BW 7.30 SP05-SP10+  with BI 4.0 SP02-SP05+
• 2013+ :   BW 7.31 SP08+ with BI 4.1 SP01+

Of course, for absolute confirmation of compatibility you need to check the PAM (product availability matrix) at www.service.sap.com/pam .

the main focus is typically the level of interoperability fixes in the "integration" area of the BW OLAP engine <-> BO/BI applications. This means you should also check either or both : BW-BEX-OT-MDX and  BI-RA-BICS component for latest recommended corrections. (these are the APIs used for data exchange)

Hi Praveen,

Can you please provide us with the exact version of BO server (like BOE XI 3.1, BO 4.0, BO 4.1 , etc) to be installed so that we can accordingly guide you further.

we can take any BO server versions but which one is suitable for SAP-BI version is SAP EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0.1.

Yes, you are stuck with Xi3.1 Sp05+, if you want to use newer BI4.x product you should upgrade your NW as well. You can still use BI4, but there will be performance and other issues.

Yes. it is OK. XI3.1/BI4.x products are not tied to BW/NW servers and can be installed anywhere.

Yes. it is OK. XI3.1/BI4.x products are not tied to BW/NW servers and can be installed anywhere.

How will we connect if it is in another server please help me with screen shots.

It'll connect same way as if it was installed on the same server. You provide connection information to it.

I have the same question.

We use BW 7.31 SP06 with BO 4.0 SP6 Patch 2 and we plan to upgrade to BI 4.1 next month.

We don't know if we have to upgrade also to BW 7.31 SP08. Is it mandatory or can we stay in BW 7.31 SP06 ?

presumably you've checked the PAM for BI 4.1 and can see the information you need? https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000494342013E

personally, i would cross-check with the 'integration' components, like BICS API, and search for important 'interoperability' notes for BICS fixes.

You might find sufficient justification in doing a BW upgrade too. This might occur to you whilst doing sandbox testing before rollout.
