Can you check the table SYSREMOTEUSERS? Do you see entries for the mentioned stores (STORE17 / STORE14...)

Yes, this user is listed. It has suddenly stopped working for this user ?

Have you tried to use dbremote with the -v option to display verbose output? It should show the contents of the messages. IIRC, the first digit within the message number ("1-...") might indicate that the messages by "STORE17" are being resent, and the receiver might ignore them by design as they have already by applied.
What does SYSREMOTEUSER show for both remotes? Are there differences according to receive_count vs. rereceive_count? Does the table show that the according log offsets have already been confirmed by the current database?

I removed the messages from the folders and subsequently there were resent by the remote - this time they applied correctly - not sure why it worked this way ?

I guess they were all repeated messages

Well, re-send of messages is not necessarily a problem but part of SQL Remote's "Guaranteed Message Delivery System"... s. https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_SQL_Anywhere/dc2260c1b8de4966b6cdee9c6d5cbcb2/95f6e6a26ea11014ba2fb701...
