SQL Server management studio hangs when creating a new linked Advantage Database OLE DB server

Hello,

We installed a Windows 2019 server with SQL Server 2019 and Advantage Database Server 11.10, all 64 bit.

-> Migrating from Windows 2008 with SQL Server 2008 R2 and Advantage Database Server 11.10, all 32 bit.

On the old server, SQL Server has a linked Advantage Database Dictionary through OLE DB.

When I try to recreate this on the new server, SQL Management Studio hangs when I select the "Advantage OLE DB Provider" in the "New Linked Server" screen. Anybody who had the same problem?

You can get the SQL management studio fully functional again bij rebooting the server, but as soon as you try to select the advantage oledb driver again in the new linked server screen, it's broken again. Reinstalling the OLE DB driver doesn't help. I'm trying this as domain administrator on the server with maximum rights on the SQL server. SQL Server Management Studio has the latest updates.

I am having the exact same issue, were you ever able to find a resolution to this? I am already a full admin on the server and use the query function, I can create a linked server, but anytime I try to modify the settings for the OLE provider, or the settings on the linked server, I freeze. I also have to close out and restart SQL server to release it.

Windows Server 2019 has introduced some new security settings that interfere with the ability for the LocalSystem service to create the link to ADS. Our developers are working on a fix to adapt to these new requirements.

In the meantime, if you change the service account from LocalSystem to an user with Administator privileges, you should be able to create the Linked Server.

Any chance there are any updates to this?

I am not I am already a full admin on the server - not connected as a Local Service account and am full Admin. If I use the query function, I can create a linked server, but anytime I try to modify the settings for the OLE provider, or the settings on the linked server, or try to run any scripts on the Linked server I freeze completely. I also have to close out and restart SQL server to release it
