SAP RAP - ABAP Runtime Error 'BEHAVIOR_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT

Hello,

I am working on an SAP RAP-based development and encountering an ABAP Runtime Error 'BEHAVIOR_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT' when executing a button action.

The button requires a parameter input, and when I enter a value and click the button, the error occurs.

Inside my class, I am calling another class where I use BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT and BAPI_TRANSACTION_ROLLBACK. However, I receive the following error message:

Statement "ROLLBACK WORK" is not allowed with this status.

It seems that calling COMMIT WORK or ROLLBACK WORK directly is restricted within the transactional context of RAP.

How can I handle transactional BAPI calls properly within RAP without triggering this error?

This error occurs because actions in RAP run inside a transactional buffer managed by the framework.
Hence, statements like COMMIT WORK , ROLLBACK WORK, or BAPIs that perform commits (such as BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT ) are not allowed — whether it’s a managed or unmanaged scenario.

In RAP, the framework controls the LUW (Logical Unit of Work).
If you need to call BAPIs that normally require a commit, handle the commit inside the SAVE method (not inside the action) in an unmanaged scenario.

This ensures all changes are committed only after RAP’s transactional checks are complete and prevents the runtime error BEHAVIOR_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT.
