I have Datasphere up and running and connected to my DP Agent, I have enabled the ABAPAdapter and the HnanaAdaptor but I am struggling to connect my SAP S/4 HANA on premise system.
For both connection (ABAP and Hana) I can use Remote tables but not replication or data flows
When I setup the connection do I need to use the cloud connector for either or can the connection just be made through the DP Agent I don't understand when I should be using the cloud connector ?
Thanks
Nick

yes you need Cloud Connector to access Onprem system

Dpagent vs Cloud conector.
SAP DPAgent (Data Provisioning Agent) and SAP Cloud Connector are both used to facilitate secure communication between on-premise systems and SAP cloud environments, but they serve different purposes and are used in different contexts.
SAP DPAgent (Data Provisioning Agent)
- Purpose. SAP DPAgent is primarily used for data replication and real-time data access between on-premise systems and SAP cloud solutions like SAP HANA Cloud or SAP Data Intelligence.
- Functionality: It enables data provisioning by connecting on-premise data sources (such as SAP ERP, SAP S/4HANA, or other databases) to the cloud. It supports real-time data replication and can be used for scenarios like data federation, where data is accessed in real-time without being physically moved.
- Use Cases**: Commonly used in scenarios requiring real-time data integration, such as SAP HANA Smart Data Integration (SDI) or SAP Data Intelligence.
SAP Cloud Connector
- Purpose**: SAP Cloud Connector acts as a secure link between on-premise systems and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) or other SAP cloud applications like SAP S/4HANA Cloud or SAP SuccessFactors.
- Functionality**: It provides a secure tunnel for communication, ensuring that only authorized cloud applications can access on-premise systems. It handles authentication, encryption, and connectivity, enabling seamless integration between on-premise and cloud environments.
- Use Cases**: Used for integrating on-premise systems with SAP cloud applications, such as SAP BTP, SAP S/4HANA Cloud, or SAP SuccessFactors. It is also used in scenarios like SAP Cloud Integration (CPI) for connecting to on-premise systems.
Key Differences
1. **Primary Use**:
- DPAgent: Focuses on data replication and real-time data access.
- Cloud Connector: Focuses on secure connectivity and integration between on-premise and cloud applications.
2. ntegration Scenarios**:
- DPAgent: Used for data provisioning and real-time data integration.
- Cloud Connector: Used for application integration and secure communication.
3. Supported Systems**:
- DPAgent: Connects to on-premise data sources for data replication.
- Cloud Connector: Connects to on-premise systems for application-level integration.
4. Deployment Context**:
- DPAgent: Typically used in data-centric scenarios like SAP HANA Cloud or SAP Data Intelligence.
- Cloud Connector: Used in application-centric scenarios like SAP BTP or SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
In summary, SAP DPAgent is more focused on data integration and replication, while SAP Cloud Connector is designed for secure application integration between on-premise and cloud environments.

Hey mrnice66!
Check out Datasphere's Help documentation: Prepare Connectivity to SAP S/4HANA On-Premise
For Data Flows and Replication Flows is mandatory to use Cloud Connector.
