Hi Experts,
I have successfully installed the oracle software 11g of oracle ASM database and its been installed as per my previous oracle softwares with oracle:oinstall user and group.
Now I am installing the DB instance before that I am performing ASM preparation. As a part of that I have choseen the general options ->
oracle-> DB tools->
RAC/ASM/EXadata database isntance preparation ABAP - Kernel 7.4X ->
Database identification section given the new DB sid and selected the single instance on Oracle ASM ->
DB administration (OS User) password given ->
home directory somehow choosen as /home/orasid - but changed manually it to /home/oracle/ but we do not have any user called orasid in server. we have only oracle and sidadm of system.
we have started installing with root user but really wondering how it got it picked up orasid.
Apart from this in SWPM Sp08 there is one option to choose to install with orasid/oracle - so we can choose with oracle but in SWPM SP17 there is no option such like this.
We cant use SWPM SP08 as we need Kernel 7.4X which was not appearing in SWPM SP8.
Kindly suggest me here ?
Your kind help much appreciated.
Thanks
Pavan

Hi Kaushik
I really appreciate your time and efforts here.
Thank you so much for your explanation. So far we were using root user id to perform the ASM preparation and DB instance installation but we understood we have to use oracle user id for both.
Can you please confirm is my understanding is correct.
Now coming back to revert the changes, we have performed only ASM preparation tasks as per http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/40f99657-82e2-3110-0ca8-99407e928... this document "Using SWPM on the Oracle Database Appliance"
We have chosen General options -> Oracle-DBTools-> AC/ASM/Database Instance Preparation ABAP Kernel 7.4x -> Selected single instance of oracle ASM and it is similar to the document and one of the screen selected automatically given Home directory as /home/orasid but cahnged to /home/oracle
As mentioned earlier got some permission issues and changed entire /home/oracle permission to 777 and completed the ASM Preparation.
Some of the env variables are got created from oracle to orasid. As you aware it was taken as a back up environment variable as .dbenv_hsotname.1.csh
Do we need to perform any steps to revert these changes or rename the newly created files to old n make the old files are new. Start the fresh ASM preparations with oracle user id beginning ?
Please give me the clear steps.
Thanks
Pavan

Guys, I see a lot of misunderstanding here
1) Thread was opened by Pavan Kumar but all other comments came from Wipro Onshore,
is there any special reason for it? If no, then better to use login you used to create this message.
2) Pavan wrote: "I have successfully installed the oracle software 11g of oracle ASM database"
How you have it done? Did you use the software disks from SAP for it? Let's assume you did.
You have used oracle:oinstall to install ASM instance, it is correct.
3) You started the prepiration step in SWPM(started sapinst) using the root user, it is correct again.
4) SWPM didn't recognize you have used the oracle user (or you want to use it for DB as well) and tried to change everything to be used by the orasid user, this is the incorrect behavior of SWPM/sapinst.
Open the question to SAP, and rize this question there.
Meanwhile, try to check, maybe they already issued new patch for SWPM, and try to use it.
BR, Sergo.
