SAP Cloud Platform

Former Member

Good Morning:

We are TEC, a startup that develops solutions for electricity retailers. We are currently in the sales phase to potential retailers and therefore, we may register as SAP partners (our potential clients could be SAP clients). We are writing to you in reference to some questions in SAP Cloud Platform.

-If we integrate our solution in the 12-month demo, what legal implications would it have? In other words, could we sell our solution to third parties despite having developed the integration of our solution in the SAP environment?.

-The 12-month free trial on SAP Cloud Platform, allows to develop the integration of our solution or is limited.

-The last question is, if we sign up for the demo test, will it then allow us to enroll in the partner program or is it incompatible?

A cordial greeting.

Hi,

The SAP Cloud Platform trial does not allow you to develop and then sell your application to customers. The Terms of Use stipulate that you "use the Service solely for Your own internal non-productive testing and evaluation of the Service". The trial version does not come with any support or SLA, and services may be upgraded or deprecated without notice.

If you intend to build your own applications on SAP Cloud Platform, and sell these applications to customers as a packaged application, the SAP PartnerEdge – Build program is the right option for you. This program allows you to develop and commercialize your intellectual property. After you've entered the program, you will be able to subscribe to development licensing services (at a cost). These development licensing services do allow you to build and then sell applications to customers. There is no direct migration from the trial environment.

The SAP PartnerEdge – Build program also gives you the option to sell SAP Cloud Platform services bundled with your own application, and to list your application on SAP App Center if you wish to do so. You will need to submit your application to the Application Readiness Check before you can publish your application and order the SAP Cloud Platform services bundle for resell.

To enter the program, you will need to apply here. Once admitted, you will be sent the contract package for your signature. A program fee of 2,000 euro will apply. If you are not ready yet to make such commitment, you could start as a member of Open Ecosystem – Build and upgrade to a full partnership at a later point in time. As a member in the Open Ecosystem – Build program, you do have access to the full portfolio of development licensing services (not just for SAP Cloud Platform, but other SAP products as well). However, you will not be able to publish your application on SAP App Center or resell SAP Cloud Platform services bundled with your solution; nor will you reach SAP Partner status.

Best regards, Ivo

You can also reach out to SAP.iO - they have a formal program to support, mentor, and eventually walk your startup into the partner program and your product into the SAP store

Hi,

As an existing SAP partner that has developed an application using the trial platform and then migrated it over to a partner account when we found a customer willing to pay for it, I can confirm this approach works.

However, we did not use the trial for customer demos, so would be interested to understand what the restrictions are there. (Our development on trial was the migration of an existing Neo app to Cloud Foundry.)

However, I would caution you about the amount of time that it takes to get that partner account activated. The process of becoming an SAP Partner is also not the speediest thing in the world. It is certainly not a "press a button" type interaction. If you allow plenty of time for these two items, then using the trial for prototyping is a good fit.

Good luck, I hope you become part of the SAP developer community!

I think you should check out SAP PartnerEdge – Build Partnership. You can use the SAP CP Trial only for learning and evaluation. No productive workloads. Also there is no direct migration vom Trial to the Productive environment. But you can build your solution by using MTA's that you simply can deploy in both environments.

I can answer the last question - I got information, that it is planned (by SAP), that you will be able to convert trial system to the actual business licence - also with your solution developed in that system.

Thank you very much vbalko_effiis and gregorw. Other question: if we would like be in App Center, will have we to integrated our solution with SAP or could be it witout integrated?

Also, will have to certify our solution to be in App Center or isn't it necessary?
