Hi Thomas,
we thought about adding a HANA on Azure in front of SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse) but came to the exact same conclusion as you did (costs, performance, authorizations)
It's a small world Thomas and in terms of Microsoft and SAP it is even getting closer 🙂

Hi Michael,
unfortunately there´s no way to access the "underlying" HANA DB.
The option I meant is:
a) SAC connects live to a HANA DB (which must be available locally on customers´s side)
b) The HANA DB is connected with the Azure DB via Smart Data Integration (which is also a live connection).
With this setup it should be possible to realize a live connection from SAC to Azure DB.
The downside is that customer needs a HANA DB. If not availble it might be a showstopper.
Further I have real concerns about performance and also about data authorizations.
So, if this scenario is not reasonable, I expect there is no other solution possible (at the moment).
Best regards,
Thomas
PS: What a coincidence to meet a former colleague in this discussion 🙂 Wish you all the best!

Hi Michael,
I´d potentially see 2 options which could be checked.
a) via OData if Azure SQL Data Warehouse is capable to publish data via OData interface
b) via HANA DB and SDI Smart Data Integration
