Problem with long dash /em dash

I'm hoping someone can help please

I have noticed that there are a number of records being omitted from a search/filter in Business Objects and it seems to do with an 'em dash' (long dash) being substituted for 3 symbols ( ?$ú) ('?' in a diamond)

Can someone please explain why this happens and what I can do to convert them back to a long '-' in the output

It is likely due to a character set issue. It sounds like your database is using a different character set than the output you are seeing. It could also be a font issue. In any case, you should investigate the character sets being used, and make sure they are both the same.
