Material master data management

Hi All,

I am looking at best practices on managing master data within your organizations/clients, especially for material master maintenance to achive an effective data governance. It should cover PROCESS, STANDARDS, ORAGANIZATION, and TECHNOLOGIES.

Questions:

1. what does the organization structure look like?

2. how is the process flow and governance in material master maintenance?

Do we need e-form to be automated creation in SAP with certain level approval?

3. who is the owener of material master or owener this process and they should report to which department?

4. what is the best composition of expert in this organization? IT, Procurement, Engineers, and/or Finance???

Material master data management first starts with the creation of material code:-

a) material code can be real material code: which will consist of raw material,Semifinished and Finished goods.

b) material code can be dummy: For asset purchase and sales ,services purchased and services sold.

1) Organisation structure look is generally not guided by the matereial master. It is generally guided by the company pattern of presenation of financial data, manufacturing plants and different ways of selling a product or services.

so Material master should be created by a centralsied team in Corporate. There will be a common format (even it can be in Excel) which will be available to each department.

:- Asset department will use this format for asset creation

:- Service deprtment :- Like IT will use this format for the purpose of servece creation for their Software.

:-Purchase and manufacturing department will use the very same for raw material and semifinished goods.

:- sales department will used it for the sales of product and services.

This file will go to the centralise masterdata creation team which will fill the other material master view details. And after creation of material code the corrosponding material code should be informed to the corrosponding department.
