Hello,

I have needed to switch from Windows 7 32 Bit to Windows 8 64 Bit. With Windows7 Crystal Reports works fine. With Windows 8 I can not install Crystall Report 2011.

I'm local administrator on my machine. I downloaded the Support Package 4 full build. I have enough free space on my HD

The installation stop with an "The cache was not updated for execution. The program is terminated." when installing tp.microsoft.msxml-4.0-core-32

I don't know if this help or not, since I have no user for this website 😞

Here's the main theme:

Cause

The issue occurs because antivirus running on the server blocks some of the installation files. The installer is unable to copy the temporary installation files from BI 4.0 setup folder to destination install directory.

Resolution

Temporarily disable the antivirus on the server to finish BI 4.0 installation.

The antivirus can be enabled once the install is completed successfully.

Note: The antivirus on the server should be disabled completely. The Windows user might not have full rights to disable the antivirus hence it should be disabled with the help from server admin.

When installing certain patches the installer is a self extracting exe that extracts the files to a temp directory and then moves them to the program files directoreis.  The virus scan software does not allow files to be moved from tmp or temp to program files.

To ensure this problem does not occur, do not run the exe, but extract the files from the archive first and then run setup.  The files should be extracted to a low level directory to ensure the 256 char limit for the filepath is not encountered.

Do you see this folder structure created:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\tmp\

?

If so, can you manually delete it?

What other apps are running at the time you are installing CR 2011?

Have you been able to run the latest updates for WIN 8 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19662)?

Hello,

I tried the installation serveral times, and I deleted also the complete InstallData path.

During installation I try to stopped all applications, but I can't stop our Virusscanner Trendmicro Office Scan.

Sorry is the link to the Microsoft Download correct, the supported Operating Systems for this link are: Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

And I'm running Windows 8

Best regards

Not sure about the link accuracy - see if there is something for Win 8.

I take it you do not see the structure:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\tmp\

??

Or is you see \SAP BusinessObjects, delete it and all the subdirectories. Then check the registry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects. If you find it, delete it and try the reinstall now.

Hello Ludek,

I can see the folder structue below C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData and I can see that there are some folders in tmp called \tp.microsoft.msxml-4.0-core-32 to tmp\tp.microsoft.msxml-4.0-core-32.19, in each subfolder are the same two files msxml.msi and seed.xml

Before the last installation I deleted this subfolder.

In the registry I could not find  the key you mentioned. But I found HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects should I delete this one?

Best regards

Yes. Let's delete that reg key (unless you have some other SAP BO products / clients installed) as well as the folder and try to reinstall.

Hello Ludek,

sorry this doesn't help. But I found the solution!!!!

I moved the folder tp.microsoft.msxml-4.0-core-32 from the installation directory DATA_UNITS\CrystalReports\dunit to an other directory outside of the installation directory Then I install the msxml from this folder manually after that I started the installation of Crystal report again.

Then I got again an error message "The cache was not updated for execution. The program is terminated." but now for tp.microsoft.wse.runtime-3.0-core-32. So now I did the same as before with the msxml folder I moved tp.microsoft.wse.runtime-3.0-core-32 from DATA_UNITS\CrystalReports\dunit and install this wse runtime manually.

Then I start the Crystal Setup again, and now the installation run without any error AND Crystal Report is working now 😉

Best regards

Andree

Hi Andree,

CR 2011 is not supported on Windows 8 until SP 6.

See the Platform info:

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e05429d2-7697-2f10-92a4-c014bbafa...

Please download and test it. If it still fails then we can escalate.

Thank you
