I received this email from a client of mine:
I have a couple of questions about input controls in Web Intelligence (V3).
I have set up a list box so that users can filter on item codes. However I cannot get it to display all the item codes that appear in the report. Those displayed equate only to the ‘page 1 of 5’ values seen when setting up an ‘in list’ report filter on the same items
Is there a way to overcome this limitation? I have looked at users added filters as an alternative and while this does at least list all item codes, it does not allow the user to select multiple items.
Secondly, I have two report tabs with independent input controls (one for tea items and one for coffee items). Both reports are filtered to show either tea or coffee. Is there a way to get the input controls to recognise these filters, and the list displayed contains all items for both reports.
Many thanks

The input control is constructed from a merged dimension – the item code comes from two providers; a sales query and a forecasted sales query. The the List Of Values Batch Size property of the WIReportServer has been set to 50,000.
Personally, I think that it’s very possible that the reason why the input control isn’t working correctly is because the merged dimension has been designed at report level. However, the customer does not use a Data Warehouse to merge the data first, so I need to know if there is any way to get the input controls to recognise these filters, and the list displayed contains all items for both reports.
Does anyone have any experience of this, or any ideas?

Hi Ian,
I have experimented with this one thing you need to remember is the List of Values for the Input Control will get regenerated with every refresh of the report you can always modify the number of values you can see for the input control. In the below images i have shown where you can change how many values you see and how it gets displayed
The max i went was upto 25000 but the more values you try to display the more time it takes for the input control to come up after the report is refreshed. You can possibly use a search and list box for the same object so anything that is not available in the list box can be searched by the user.
Hope this helps

Hi Riddhi
Yes the above input control is single value. Yes there is a difference between single and multivalue operators the multivalue operators have "Inlist, Not Inlist" as the option for you to select where as the single value has "Equal To, Not Equal To"
It depends how you want to use them if you have a scenario where you think the customer might want to filter on multiple values then go for Multivalue operators. A better way to use single and multivalue operators is a combination of search field and multivalue listbox.
So use a entryfield input control for the user to search for a single value and if the plan to select more than one then we have multivalue list box something as shown below.
Hope that helps

Hi Ian,
two questions require separate threads, this would encourage other users to respond and makes things leaner.
Please try also a way to simplify the questions because they are quite articulated and people may not understand what the problem is.
Thanks
