I'm confused how to start my initial BOE 4.1 SP4 install.
This is a brand new install.
I have two empty databases on a a MS SQLserver (one for CMS, one for Audit).
These are Windows 2008 R2 servers.
I will be having a cluster where:
Server1 Web Tier
Server2 CMS and FRS related services
Server3 Second CMS and FRS related services
Server4 Crystal related job server services
Server5 Second Crystal related job server services
Server6 WebI related job server services
My question is how do I get my initial CMS database created?
I can't just do a Web Tier install on Server1 because it will be looking for an existing CMS.
I don't want to do a full install on Server2 because I won't be running the Web Tier components from there.
Do I perform a full install on Server1 and then disable the non-Web Tier components afterward?
It's been a while since I've done a brand new install with the intention of clustering.
Thanks.

Hi
For this landscape first you need to create CMS and Audit database on SQL Server. Then you need to create the System DSN for CMS and Audit database on server 2 and 3.
You need to start with server 2 and select the custom/expand installation.Select the core services and uncheck the web components & webi and crystal services depend on the installation requirement from this server.
There is no need to perform full installation on server1 and disable the services.
Once installation will complete on server 2 then start with server 3 and select the custom /expand installation and you will get the option in the installation to select option "Expand an existing SAP BusinessObjects BI platform deployment".
Once server 2 and 3 installation will complete then you can install web tier or crystal services on different box.
If you have specific questions then let me know.

Amit,
I already have an empty database for a CMS and one for my Audit database (none of them initialized as nothing as touched them yet). I also already have created the System DSN entries on my servers. I realize that I'll be doing a "custom/expand" install on most of my servers (as I've done in the past) in order to get my cluster together. However, it has always been my impression that a full install would need to be done somewhere first in order to initialize the databases to be used for the CMS and Audit. Is this not the case? Can I actually start with my Server 2 and de-select Web Tier and have that successfully initialize my empty databases for CMS and Audit? If so, then yes, I could move to Server 3 next and perform an "expand" installation thus creating my cluster (and then move on to working on Server 1). Please let me know. I've always thought I need to do a full install first in order to get that initial CMS database initialized. Thanks for your help.
Hi,
Start with Server 2 and deselect the web tier components. There is no need to go for full installation on server 2.Once you will complete the custom installation on server 2 then you will see tables in CMS and Audit databases. For your landscape you need to select the custom/expand installation on each server.
CMC and BI launchpad will not be accessible until you install the web tier but same time you can see number of BO servers in the CCM for each node.
