How do you save custom data to custom package?

Hello IDM Community,
In the configuration gyuide, it states that the custom package, "allows customizations of the provisioning framework without changing other packages. It contains customizations and extensions made by the customers,"

How exactly does the custom pacjage manage this data? I do not see any of my custom jobs, constants, etc in the custom package after I have manipulated the SAP delivered packages like, ABAP and Java.

Currently, I have resorted to copying and renaming SAP delivered packages as a way to transport my customized changes. However, the configuration guide as well as Learning Hub tutorials consistently refer to thsi Custom package as the correct way to do this. Any help would be apreciated.

Hello Casey,

I think you found the mysterious custom package. ^^

It means not to change the delivered packages to your needs, but to copy them and change them. Because if you do the changes in the standard package, all those customization will be gone after an update.

Thanks for the quick reposnse. I assumed that was the case, but I wasn't sure how to make it work. It sounds like you are saying there is a need to copy objects like jobs, processes etc, from the SAP delivered packages, then make changes to those objects. Is that the case?

My other thought was perhaps you make the changes but they would copy in the background to the custom package. It appears as thought that isn't the case.

We're still on 7.2, so I only know what I learned in my 8.0 training last year and from what I remember there is no auto-copy to custom packages when you change SAP objects. You need to do this yourself.
