HANA Image Analysis

Experts,

Our office just installed a chalkboard that anybody within the department can use to pass along information or kudos. I'm putting together a side project that will capture an image of the content of the chalkboard several times over the course of the day. A few things I want to accomplish:

• Time lapse of chalkboard activity over several weeks or months (not HANA related)
• Analysis of "hotspot" activity on the chalkboard. Ideally this would produce something like a heatmap showing the areas of the chalkboard that change the most frequently.
• Color analysis
• Text analysis - determine keywords, topics, and sentiment that appear on the chalkboard.

Are there any general image processing capabilities native to HANA that would satisfy the above goals? The area that seems the most likely would be something like "text analysis". Can anybody speak to HANA's ability to analyze an image file for key words or shapes? This seems to involve some component of OCR.

You mistake "text analysis" and image processing/OCR. These are two distinct problems with very different solution approaches.

SAP HANA currently doesn't provide built-in OCR capabilities.

For your project, you might need to convert the image files into text first before analyzing the text in SAP HANA.

The only reason I thought HANA -might- support some kind of OCR is on the basis of allowing a fulltext index to be created on a BLOB column. This may be to support Word of PDF documents, though.
