Getting start with Embedded Analytic

Dear Experts,

         I have heard some concepts of embedded analytic and feel really interested. What I have known so far is that this tool can leverage the BW Query, Crystal Report, or Xcelsius features in the SAP ERP system and not require the SAP BW system at all.

        It comes to the following questions that I have tried to find the answers:

        1) Is it true that no SAP BW or SAP BO System are required for embedded analytic?

        2) how to set up the embedded analytic step-by-step?

               2.1) how to activate the business content in SAP ERP system? Use T-Code RSOR?

               2.2) Does the InfoCube in SAP ERP system really keep the data or it is just a virtual infocube? How to configure it?

               2.2) how to link the activated InfoCube to SAP ERP table? Do we need to activate datasources to provide data for the InfoCube like what we normally do in SAP BW process?

               2.3) how to display the activated dashboard?

        I tried to find some documents in SCN but not thoroughly understand them.

There are materials on this on the space http://scn.sap.com/community/embedded-analytics and there are different variations

Which specific scenario are you interested in?  Because depending on what it is you may not need BW.  You also need to be on a specific enhancement package for the scenario.

Dear Tammy,

         Thank you so much for your answer. We are now trying to activate Query and Dashboard under Talent Management Specialist such as Succession Planning Monitor Query and Dashboard.

         As far as I know this query is based on the multiprovider 0TMC_MP01. If we want to run this queery and dashboard in SAP ERP system, I would like to know how to fill out data in this multiprovider. Do we need to activate the standard datasources like SAP BW process in SAP ERP and load data to the related InfoCube under 0TMC_MP01?

        Furthermore, to display the query and dashboard on launchpad, do we need to install anything or do any particular configuration? Is there any document providing this information?

First, can you specify which enhancement package in ERP you are running?

Also, why do you want to run this inside your ERP system and why not just leave it in BW?

Dear Tammy,

   Thank for your prompt response.

   We are now in SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 5.0.

   Our customer doesn't want to have another BW server, and someone suggested the Embedded Analytic for this solution.

I have not turned on HCM analytics in ECC. 

There may be some enhancement functions you can turn on.

    I really like to know how data will be in the infocube by not loading data to it?

You can turn on transient providers but I am not sure that would work well with HCM

There are limitations as not all Infosets are available for this type of use.

I recommend that you research more about transient providers in enhancement pack 5

     Appreciate your help.

     Now I am slightly confused with the concept of embedded analytic. What is the purpose for this tool? Isn't it used for this case (providing the analytic reports in SAP ERP)?

     For the transcient provider, is there any business content available? Otherwise we need to build it from scratch and that doesn't fit our expectation.

Dear Tammy,

         I looked through the blogs and found one of your blogs really interesting.

         In this blog, you mentioned that

          "Embedded analytics gives you the ability to report in real time inside ECC.  It givseees you the best of breed solutions, the most integrated solutions together."      

          "Why Embedded Analytics? Historically, applications had embedded reporting.  With BI they were taking data out of transactional applications and reporting

          Now tools have matured and they want to bring the reporting & analytics back into applications."

          It seems that with Embedded Analytic we do not require the BI system anymore. Therefore, I would like to know :

          1) How to configure the Embedded Analytic to get data from ERP in real time?

              Do we need to use Transient InfoProvider? If yes, is there any business content for the transient infoprovider?

          2) Can the business content provided by SAP can support the Embedded Analtic?

          3) Can the Embedded Analytic be displayed on Portal Launchpad only?

          I do apologize to ask you so many questions but really need to find the answers for the customers.

Questions 2 & 3 - I have not personally implemented, so maybe if you separate that out into a separate discussion someone else will respond.
