Hi,
We have just gone live with 2004s and noticing that users are continually being thrown out of the analyser and query designer with the generic 'critical error' message.
Looking at the system log I can see a number of entries with the following:
<b>Communication error CPIC return code 020, SAP return code 223</b>
Has anyone seen this before? If so how did you fix it?
any help appreciated,
Michael

Stefan - did you get any success with this one?

I had the same problems in my computer, but in other computers works fine. the issue is related with problems in excel. Currently we have been experiencing problems only in Excel 2007. In Excel 2003 the problem disappeared.
The only way that solve our problems was to update all the patches for office 2003. Install all the recommendations given in the Bloq "SAP GUI BW 7.1 INSTALLATION" in SDN page. it's contains the 22 steps to validate and update all the microsoft framework (that's where the problem is... is Microsoft). Once we apply all these "recommendations" almost all computers works more stable. In my laptop with a persistent issue I had to format and reinstall everything and now it works fine...

Hi Stefan
Did you ever get a response from SAP on this?
We are experiencing excactly the same problem on SP13.
I ran the BEx check tool as specified in the blog and got a single red.
sapbex.xls 3500.9.044 3500.11.051
But this is for the 3.5 version, so it shouldn't really pose a problem. However, we will patch it ASAP and try again of course.
