Forwarding workitem to different user

there is a workflow which is in error failed due to agent assignment but we need to forward the workitem to a new user after restarting workitem as the previous user got terminated . Can anyone please suggest how to do that

tried but didnot work as it said cannot execute a completed workitem but actually workitem is in error

From workflow log get the actual workitem which is going to error state and from swia replace the workitem (SHIFT + CTRL + 0)which is going into error state. and then try to forward the workitem by using shift + f12.
