Is it the problem with the abap patch level, currently SAP_ABA patch level in the system is 14. Please suggest.

HI,
Concerning this error, please refer to Note 1251735 (the part about
Phase VALCHK_INI) and then start with a clean EHPI directory again from
the beginning. This should work.
- 1251735 - Add. Info. - SAP Enhancement Package Installer (7.10/5);
Hope this helps.
cheers

Hi,
I got stuck in PREP_IMPORT/RUN_GENPUTTBSHD phase, the RS_GENERATE_PUTTB_SHD is running since 48 hrs. Below is the log RSPTBINI.LOG

Yes, I am using MaxDB version 7.7.06.010 and using superdba as user to execute x_cons <SID> sh ac 1
No, I don't see major activity on the disks and CPU used for the same.
Also I terminated the EHPI installation and started it again after deleting PUTTB_SHD as mentioned in , its again performing PREP_IMPORT/RUN_GENPUTTBSHD phase but its being an hour there are no entries in PUTTB_SHD table. Please suggest.
Regards,
Mridul
x_cons <SID> sh ac 1 gave the status of db server as I saw from the command executed, the result is below
ID UKT Win TASK APPL Current Timeout Region Wait
tid type pid state priority cnt try item
T95 8 0xB64 User 14940 IO Wait (R) 0 0 5 43160655

I also checked x_cons W6Q show active

Console command finished (2010-06-14 17:07:18).
But how it is helping me in my issue, its being 3 hrs table PUTTB_SHD is still empty...
Please suggest.

This means, that the process with application PID 14940 is still doing something (reading data from the database).
How big is your CACHE_SIZE on that system?
Markus
How many R3trans and batch processes do you have configured?
You can try to increase the cache size of the database but this will sooner or later make your system swap. You could also run the upgrade itself on a separate dialog instance.
All in all your hardware is not suited for such a big upgrade.
Markus
There are 3 batch process in the system and there is no R3trans process active as of now in my system...I restarted the upgrade and it is in Extraction phase(PREP_IMPORT/RUN_GENPUTTBSHD) and in SAPMMC I can c again a batch process is running in Sequential read as action and table TADIR, where it hanged earlier...
Please suggest.

and how many of them have you configured during PREPARE?

it's not hanging, it's reading data.
If the table TADIR is bigger than your cache size the database will need to read the data over and over again - which takes time. Again, there's nothing you can do but increase the memory size for the database or just be patient. The sizing of the system is not appropriate so there's not a single button you can push to make it faster.
TADIR has all repository objects (tables, data elements etc.), in our system those are > 3,4 million. All those have to be read to be compared with all new objects. If those 3,4 million don't fit in your database cache, they are displaces before they are used, so the database has to read them again...

Hi,
SAPEHPI didn't asked me for no of batch processes while taking inputs.
there are around 1.85 million objects in TADIR table in our system...if I go with current configuration how much time it wud take to run this phase, I would also like to know how much memory is needed for upgrade...

Then you apparently used the default configuration, which is, for most systems, too low configured.

Nobody can tell how long it will take.
Out of my experience I wouldn't do an upgrade beyond 16 GB where at least 8 GB are configured for the database. Technically it'll work with lower memory but you need to be patient.
On our system from the initial start of SAPehpi till the downtime it took us two days (> 48 hours).
