Dear team,

We are configuring DVM report in our Production system. We are reaching out to inquire about the process for generating a Data Volume Management (DVM) report within the SAP environment.

Specifically, I would like to understand if there is an option to access or generate this report at no additional cost, as part of the standard offerings or through any available free tools or services.

Could you please provide information on:

1. The steps or procedures for generating the DVM report within SAP.
2. Any free resources or tools that might allow us to generate this report without incurring additional charges.
3. Any potential limitations or prerequisites for accessing the report without fees.
4. Proceess and steps of how to generate DVM reports

Your guidance on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you require any further details from my end.

Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to your response.

There are several ways to generate a Data Volume Management (DVM) report for an SAP system. Here are some common methods:

1. SAP Solution Manager: SAP Solution Manager provides various tools and functionalities to manage and monitor SAP systems. It includes the DVM Work Center, which allows you to generate DVM reports. You can access the DVM Work Center through the SAP Solution Manager Launchpad and use the provided templates to create reports.

2. SAP Data Volume Management Cockpit: The Data Volume Management Cockpit is a tool specifically designed for managing data volume in SAP systems. It provides a graphical interface to analyze and optimize data volume. You can generate DVM reports by selecting the relevant data objects, specifying the reporting period, and running the analysis.

3. SAP EarlyWatch Alert: The SAP EarlyWatch Alert service provides proactive monitoring and analysis of SAP systems. It includes a DVM component that analyzes data volume trends and provides recommendations for optimization. You can request an EarlyWatch Alert report from SAP Support, which will include DVM-related information.

4. Custom Reports: You can develop custom reports using SAP tools like ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) or SAP BusinessObjects. These reports can extract data from SAP tables and provide insights into data volume management. Custom reports can be tailored to specific requirements and provide more flexibility in terms of data selection and analysis.

It is important to note that the availability and functionality of DVM reporting may vary depending on the SAP system version and the specific tools and licenses in use.

If your environment meets the prerequisites below, I can also recommend to use the DVM App. Please refer to the following KBA: 2716655 - How To Use the Data Volume Management APP - Step by Step guide

  • SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SP3+
  • Managed System Prerequisites:  ST-PI 740 SP07
                                                   ST-A/PI 01S SP03
  • Prerequisites:
        - A TMW RFC destination is required, pointing to the client in the system to be analyzed.
        - The user requires DVM administration rights in the SAP Solution Manager system.
  • Supported Managed System: SAP S/4 HANA , SAP Business Suite on HANA ( only EHP7+ for SAP ERP 6.0 for the moment ), SAP BW/4 HANA

With the Data Volume Management APP, there is no ST14 analysis anymore, instead a job is executed which triggers report RAGS_DVM_CQC_CONTROL to run in your SAP Solution Manager system. RAGS_DVM_CQC_CONTROL subsequently triggers a second job, AGS_DVM_CQC_ANALYSIS, in your managed system, which performs an analysis in respect of Data Volume Management in the managed system. After the analysis is completed, the control job in the SAP Solution Manager system fetches the result from the managed system and sends this result to the SAP Support Backbone. Once the data is successfully sent to the SAP support backbone, the temporarily created analysis data will be removed from the system.

After the analysis is finished, you can find the analysis result in the Data Volume Management APP in SAP For Me portal: Data Volume Management - SAP for Me. If your current user has an email address maintained, you can decide to receive an e-mail notification with the URL link to the SAP For Me portal where you can view the final result in the Data Volume Management APP.
