We are doing EHP1 package upgrade using SUM (software upgrade manager) SP07 tool,during the upgrade we found out that we are out of disk space on the installation.Adding the extra sapce on the disk is not possible on immidiate.Is any possiblity to move SUM to another directory and continue the upgrade?
I had raised an OSS to SAP and they suggested that it's not possible to move SUM in mid of upgrade.We should reset the upgrade and try on different drive with more space.
Could you please tell me how much space SUM dir consumed in your case? or it would be better,if you can suggest me required space in case of dual stack ??
i have extracted SUM. It takes 69 mb now. I have heard that it will grow to 3 times during up gradation.
If its only Netweaver upgrade/Java upgrade then 6-8Gb is sufficient.
But if system is ERP system and you are moving from EHP5 ERP 6.0 to EHP6 ERP 6.0 then i have experienced that SUM folder is big chunk of 14-20GB after upgrade.
Generally as per rule of thumb recommended free space is 2.5 times the size of Downloads(files which are upgraded in upgrade). I am talking only about SUM folder not DATA and LOG folder
You are doing SPS stack upgrade. I dont understand why you are doing it by SUM tool!!
You can do the same SPAM/SAINT tool and Java by JSPM(NO need to think of space and all prechecks)
Even though if you insist to upgrade with SUM. Please make sure to have at least 25-30 GB space for SUM folder.As per my suggestion if you want to save space

Thanks for your valuable advice . As I heard, using SUM,one can apply abap and java patches combined, no need to take abap system incrementally. so in my case, SUM would be preferable for dual stack. I have one more doubt, for creating a new tablespace using BRTOOLS, it ask for database owner.As it is dual stack, there are two schemas SAPSR3 for abap ,SAPSR3DB for java. what should I give the entry?? kindly help me if you have any idea on this matter.
Yes you are correct, SUM can be used in dual stack systems also but only in exceptional cases(i.e. either your system should be PI system, SOLMAN system or Mobile Infrastructure rest all dual stack systems are not supported.)
And you are upgrading SOLMAN system, so still upgrade of Dual stack with SUM is valid in your case . So both ABAP and Java stacks can be upgraded at same time. While generating stack you need to select your system as SOLMAN system to generate xml for Dual stack system.
And regarding your query to second concern you need to SAPSR3 as schema name as Java related Deployment doesn't take place at DB level rather everything is changed at FS level.
So its good practice to take FS backup before upgrade of any JAVA systems.

What phase is it in? It might be best not to change the SUM directory mid-upgrade.
How much extra space is needed? Maybe you could archive or move old dump files, operating system dump files etc that were from occurences that happened a long time ago and are no longer needed.
