Different languages within Query and workbook

Hello,

logged into my BW-System (3.5) in German, created a query (e.g. with technical ID 100) and a resulting workbook. All fine in German.

Then I logged in in English. => Description missing.

Then I got the information that I have to built a query (e.g. with technical ID 101) in English.

I did that and it was fine again (now in English).

My question is:

Is there a possibility to create a query (separate ID) which offers the resulting workbook in German and English (just depending on the

login language) rather than to create two queries?

If you edit the German query in English, you will be able to enter English descriptions for each query element. That will allow the query to be executed in English and in German. Alternately you can use the ttranslation workbench tools to add English descriptions to your German objects. Please note that not only your query elements but also your variables and infoobjects will require descriptions in both languages.  Your master data may only be maintained in one language as well, but that will be managed in your source system for master data.

The "Workbook" is by definition a single language object... MIcrosoft Excel only allows a single language to be associated with the file.  The BW elements will of course translate once the query is executed, but any Excel objects will not automatically translate.

Thomas. The tools are developer tools and are available through the GUI.

I think Charlie means Translation functionality of BW Admin workbench. it is available in TA RSA1->on left pane menu called Translation.

Martin's manual is the one I use. This is a very powerful tool because it's got workflow, diffferent 'jobs', and so on. And a dangerous tool, because it adds large numbers of your objects to transports in a fast and flexible fashion. If you're going to use it, I suggest you pilot it with one infoprovider before launching a large translation project.

From what I've see, most companies that use BW tend to support a single language for their queries and workbooks. Which is unfortunate.
