Hi All,
what is the differences between the BO EDGE and Business object Enterprise-BOE
which version we need to go for installation specially when we have situation where
we need to connect Crystal reports 2008 to SAP R/3 4.7.
Prasad
Request clarification before answering.
Hi
you can use any of the mentioned products in order to create CR report on an SAP R/3 system.
BO Edge 3.1 does not support clustering and supports up to 100 user (Focus on small/mid-sized companies). Apart from that BO Edge 3.1 and BO Enteprise XI 3.1 offer the same functionality.

Hi Stratos,
Thanks for the quick reply. So Basically nothing much differences between BO EDGE and BOE
any specific difference which will be important before suggesting the solution
CASE 1 : Still l have confusion and not sure whether we can connect Crystal 2008 to SAP R/3 4.7
with BOE or EDGE or is it mandatory to have BOE or EDGE to connect.
CASE 2 : Can I connect Crystal 2008 to SAP R/4.7 and create report on it Using SAP R/3 info-sets,Tables,ABAP Queries and functions etc.with Crystal Database Expert and not using BOE or BO- EDGE.
It is clear that we need to have SAP BO integration kit to connect in both the above cases. Please suggest which scenario relevant and correct
Prasad
Hi Prasad,
Few pointers:
For case1: Crystal reports to R/3 connection can be through "Edge SAP Integration KIT" or through direct R/3 drivers (need to check). Please note that Edge/Enterprise in this case is just a platform to publish and distribute Crystal Reports.
For case2: Yes.
For detailed difference b/w Enterprise & Edge, refer to 'attachment section' of SAP Note 1390992

Hi Subhodeep,
Thanks for the reply. The information sent was quite useful....but my questions is do I need BOE along with SAP BO Integration kit for connecting Crystal 2008 to SAP R/3 4.7 or can we connect directly using drivers in integration kit.
right now I am assuming that it is mandatory.can anybody suggest ...
Prasad
You can connect directly from your Cr Designer 2008 to SAP R/3. Still the report you create can only be stored locally and you have to make the file available to other users (which also have the CR Designer and the int.Kit installed) so that they can view the report.
If you use BOE or BO Edge your end-users can view the reports by using just their web browser.

Stratos
Hi Stratos,
I understood correctly we can Distribute the reports across organization via web browser to the users using BOE or EDGE
without which they are stand alone...... like scenario user>CR designer installed>Integration kit installed-->-connected to R/3 we can't distribute reports across organization.
Can we see the reports if we install Crystal viewer on user machine ....by receiving the .RPT crystal file without CR designer and Integration kit installed.
Crystal reports can be stored on local drive or to the BO enterprise..is that correct.
Regards
Prasad
