I normally get this question: You’ve worked on BW before, right? Backend or Front end? Any clear definitions for what “Backend” and “Front end” is about?

Also. I went to this project room and found out that those on the left side were the BW group and those on the right side were the ETL group, working on Informatica. I used to think those doing the extraction were the “Backend” while “the BW stuff were the front end. But here, one guys say, “we do the backend they are the BW guys ….

I will appreciate some clarification.

Hi Amanda;

Back end refers to the people who especially do the design and architecture kind of work and front end would be like users who will just use the system for daily transaction activities, that might envolves creating some reports too.

This terminalogy might be used in both systems(as you have mentioned BW and enformatica). Both themselves can have people for front end and back end.

Hope this helps.

Regards:
