We have developed an application that uses the Crystal Report runtime engine for .Net framework and would like to know what crystal report license is required for third parties we distribute our application to, when running it as a client application or server application.
Using the table below, it's understood when running as a client application, no license is required. However, the server application cell mentions both free and paid options, so any clarification on this would be helpful.

As it says, each site installed requires a purchased copy of Crystal Reports Designer Paid (E):

What does the Free (D) option relate to then? As the Crystal Reports Viewer is free, would you not go with that option, if no software currently on server or am I missing something? That's what i'm really trying to clarify. What scenario is D an option and what scenario is E an option. If it's just a matter of choice, then D wins every time.
