CRYSTAL REPORT 2008 capatibility w/ Visual Basic 6.0
Request clarification before answering.
Crystal Reports 2008 is NOT compatible with VB 6. 2008 only has .NET assemblies for report applications and VB 6 does not know what an assembly is.
Upgrade to VS 2008 which is the only version of VS that supports CR 2008.
Thank you
Don

If VB6 is a requirement, go for Crystal Report XI release 2, which still ships with COM compenents to be used with Visual Studio 6.
Otherwise go for Don's recommendation and upgrade your app to .NET.

Hi Don and Fritz,
Although the query which I am going to put here is a bit not in line with the current subject, but I could not find a better place to ask this.
I am at a big and complete loss of information about
1. how the Crystal Reports product and its vesrions are shipped and compatible with the Visual Basic versions. Be it CR8.5, 9, 10, XI, 2008, 2011.... or VB 6.0, Visual Studio .NET 2005, 2008, 2010.... How do we know which VB/VS version application is compatible with which CR versions?
2. What is the architecture of embedded Crystal Reports in a VB/VS application, meaning, does it happen with some server components/library files of Crystal Reports embedded within the setup package of the 'CR for VB/VS' package OR is it some design runtime (as I get to read in numerous forums) which is shipped alongwith 'Standalone' CR 8.5, 9, 10.... which can be leveraged in VB/VS application to generate(design) a crystal report?
3. How the Crystal Reports XX Design Runtime, Crystal Reports XX Viewer Control, standalone Crystal Reports XX and Visual basic/Visual Studio components are inetrlinked and placed, architecturally?
Deeply request you to kindly address this and help me understand the whole Crystal Reports for Visual Basic/Visual Studio scenario. I will be so very grateful to you. Hope you will kindly oblige.
Many thanks in advance.
Nirmit
PS: Kindly let me know if it'd more suitable to initiate a new thread altogether for this.
Hello Nirmit:
The information is out there. And I do have links to all of it. But you will have enough bed time reading to put you to sleep for the next month or so. E.g.; you query is rather far ranging and I wonder if you can boil it down a bit. It may be better if you specify what version of .NET you have, what version of CR you have and what your end point in all of this will be. I suspect the answer will be much cleaner and way less painful to go through. But, let me know and if you do need all of the info, I'll provide it then.
