Hello,
I've installed SAP BW 7.31 (AS ABAP) with BI-CONT add-on. However, I've got complains that BEx Web Application designer and BEx Report Designer can't connect. I've been searching for hours on help.sap.com, google, sap notes for information about what else needs to be installed but only clue I have is - Note 917950 - SAP NetWeaver 2004s: Setting Up BEx Web - it's an old note and it references older versions of BW.
I can't find on service.sap.com or other sources I mentioned official documentation about what needs to be installed in order to use BEx Web Application designer and BEx Report Designer.
Can anyone point me in the right directions, where to find right documentation for setup and configuration of BEx to enable use of BEx Web Application designer and BEx Report Designer?
Thanks,
Sasha

Hi Sasa,
From BW 7.3 onwards, SAP removes java stack connection, and ABAP stack only will be available.
In order to run WAD, you need to have java portal installed separately in your system.

Hi
We went though that document/steps. It's older but shouldn't have changed much.

Thank you all for answers but it might be that I did not explain well my problem.
Users already have BEx front end tools installed. What I am missing is bigger picture - architecture of BI and other required software that need to be installed (maybe portal which is mentioned in error messages or whatever else). I can't find documentation about it.
I think there is something missing besides SAP BW. Please take a look at error below.
Is there a documentation that explains BI scenario, architecture and what has to be installed and configured?
Thanks!

Hi
You also need the java stack server.
Then it will create a rfc connection to portal which BEX also uses http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/42/821640b7b6dd5fe10000000a155106/content.htm
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/42/821640b7b6dd5fe10000000a155106/content.htm
Once installed you can use the program RSPOR_SETUP to setup the connection
hope it helps

Hi Sasa,
After you get the above error -- once you click on OK -- it will download the components automatically...and get the WAD ready for you....
Have you tried clicking OK and see what happened. Are you still facing the same issue
Have you tried to contact and check with BASIS on this issue?
Check the below link if this may give you some idea on configuring WAD>

Hi
These are two different things BEx WebApplicationDesginer and BEx Query Designer are frontend tools that go with SAP GUI. Your SAP BW 7.31 is the backend system
hope it clarifies
