It is sometimes difficult to perform performance analysis in SAC. It is common practice for administrators to have to switch between our different monitoring tools, each with its own set of statistics, metrics, and visualisations. The lack of interoperability between these tools introduces further complexity to the process. For those without in-depth expertise in integrating and interpreting these diverse data points, valuable insights can be lost in translation, and issues may go unnoticed until they escalate into critical problems.
The inefficiency is evident: instead of focusing on resolving bottlenecks and enhancing system performance, administrators are forced to sift through a bouquet of performance indicators, slowing down their workflow and delaying responses to potential performance degradation.
We are pleased to announce the introduction of a centralised performance dashboard which is designed to address the challenges previously mentioned and provides a comprehensive, centralised solution for all relevant performance data, presented in a clear and organised visual format. This Performance One Pager consolidates key statistics from disparate tools into a unified view, eliminating the need for manual data gathering for administrators.
Consider a scenario where, instead of cross-referencing different performance Stories, all of the critical statistics - BI query response times, high Open Story durations, long running Data Actions and Data Management Import Jobs, and large Planning Versions - are available at a glance. This approach allows both experienced administrators and less technical team members to access the insights they need without having to navigate into the complexities of each tool.
The new start screen of the System Overview will close this gap and display all available performance data that requires attention in a centralized manner. This new home screen is called Performance One Pager. The existing functions of the System Overview will remain, but will be displayed further down because they are not relevant on a daily basis.
The forthcoming releases, 2024.19 and 2024.Q4, will see the integration of the Performance One Pager automatically into the System Overview.
This panel shows KPIs for expensive scenarios where:
These KPIs indicate that source systems are overloaded, queries are incorrectly designed, users or reports have problems, data actions and import jobs consume too many resources.
The Open Details dialog provides additional information such as runtime history and changelog and scenario-dependent details to narrow down troubleshooting. From the details dialog, the usual performance tools can be pre-filtered to display all details.
The same concept and similar data are available for the Errors and Warnings and Version Sizes panels.
