We’ve already reached the second half of 2024, meaning we’re rapidly closing in on this year’s SAP ALM Summit EMEA 2024 in Mannheim, Germany (Sep 24-27). At the upcoming edition of this annual event, you’ll hear all about latest developments and innovations in the world of SAP Cloud ALM for implementation. This blog briefly introduces some of the latest advancements, and as you can see below, the new-look launchpad already reveals that quite a bit has changed since last year.

Major benefits for every customer

SAP Cloud ALM for implementation continues to provide the harmonized implementation for the intelligent enterprise, covering all relevant SAP solutions for cloud-centric customers. Apart from brand new functions introduced this year, all core capabilities and phases have seen improvements and increased functionality over the past 12 months – far too many to list here, so we’ll quickly recap some highlights for you.

Tag Assignments to Categorize and Discover

A major improvement related to Tag Management has been adding the possibility to assign tags to certain objects within SAP Cloud ALM. In Process Management, for instance, you can now assign tags to solution processes, and the same is true for custom solution processes in Process Authoring and also for documents. In all cases, tag assignment is intuitive and quick, allowing you to search for existing tags, create new tags, or remove existing assignments if required. You can then display these tags in your lists of objects, and even filter your list results by tags to zoom in on those items you really want to see.

Sticking with Process Management, users will be happy to hear they can now create documents for process entities. This is a great step as we continue to migrate existing notes to documents, remembering that the Documents app offers additional capabilities compared to its Notes predecessor and will continue to grow, as explained in this blog from earlier this year.

Additionally, you can now assign a Process Owner to a solution process to easily identify who is responsible for it – particularly useful in case anyone has any questions about a solution process. You can then display the Process Owner information in the list of solution process and also use the Process Owner filter if needed.

Finally, the introduction of the new Process Hierarchy Author role (and thus distinguishing it from the existing project author role) means that you can manage authorizations of your process hierarchy and processes in more detail. With the options now also available for assigning process hierarchy nodes, this is a very welcome addition.

View Settings and View Management for Flexible Choice

Several apps within SAP Cloud ALM, such as Test Management and Process Management, have introduced View Management (sometimes referred to as Variant Management) into their UIs. When used in combination with other screen features, such as the Adapt Filters button or the new and simplified View Settings dialog that harmonizes grouping, sorting and column display settings across many of the apps in SAP Cloud ALM, users now have the chance to personalize how their results lists and filters are displayed, and create multiple views to save their settings. In addition, users with the right authorization can even save their view as a public view, which can then be reused by all users in the same tenant. Calling up different lists for different purposes has never been simpler.

Introducing Quality Gates

In Project and Task Management, you can now create Quality Gates and assign them to phases in a project. Here you can choose between creating a checklist manually for a quality gate assessment or uploading one using a spreadsheet template. An overview of your upcoming quality gates is available in the Project Overview, and any action items resulting from the quality gate check can be captured as follow-up tasks. More detailed information about the new quality gates feature can be found in this Blog.

Analytics and Reporting: Your Wide-Angled Lens

Last but not least, we’ve also seen some major additions to the area of Analytics, with a new Cross-Project Overview tile, a brand new Process Hierarchy Assignments app, and the new Cross-Project Analysis app, an enhanced remake of the former Release and Timelines application. The latter offers a readiness overview of multiple projects at the same time, allowing users to track statuses both at program level and at project level, quickly identifying how many project elements are completed or still awaiting completion. Process Hierarchy Assignments on the other hand lets you dig deeper into the relationships of your node structures, visualizing the statuses of the elements assigned to each node, as explained in more detail in this blog.

Closing Words

As we said above, this was by no means a full list of what’s been added to the world of SAP Cloud ALM for implementation since last year’s ALM Summit, but hopefully it gives you a good taste of the value and features that we continue to add.
