What's Databricks? Databricks was founded in 2013 and is a Data Intelligence Platform with an open lakehouse architecture. Its goal is to simplify and democratize data and AI, helping technical teams solve the world’s toughest problems.
What's SAP Databricks? Partnership between SAP and Databricks announced on February 2025 to natively bring Databricks capabilities to SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC), such as zero-copy delta sharing, advanced AI and machine learning (ML).
How is SAP Databricks measured? In SAP BDC, the metric is Capacity Units (CU) that considers storage, serverless SQL compute, object store storage and requests, etc. You can estimate how much CU you need here. For SAP Databricks, the billing is based on actual consumption rather than what is defined in the quota assignment; it means that, if you need, you can exceed the number of CU assigned during the provisioning. If you want to change the quota assignment in SAP BDC, you can follow this guidance.
How can I purchase SAP Databricks? Currently, the commercial model is subscription-based, meaning you must sign a contract to purchase SAP BDC with the required amount of CUs to provision SAP Databricks. This involves paying a fixed price for a fixed amount of CUs, regardless of whether they are fully used or not.
