Version is not maintained when processing document

Good day Gurus,

I'm aware that version can be maintained automatically, however I am not clear when a document is being processed, the version should be updated automatically. Let's say I've a Word document in DMS and the document is checked-in. Using CV02N, I make changes to the Word document, I expect that document version in DMS changes automatically (e.g. from 00 to 01) but this is not happening. I need to 'explicitly' click on new version in order to maintain different versions of the document. I want to know if this is 'normal' functionality out of the box and if so can the behaviour be changed (i.e. through exit or BADI). Below I've the some config setting in regard to content version.

Hi Cyrus,

DMS document needs to have final released status before system can prompt for creation of new version.

Please check status of DMS document.

Please understand what is the use of document status ? why we need to create?? when we need to change the status? when the document to be released or reach final?

Small correction in your configuration In above screen shot change status type I to S and create one more document status as work request or inwork put status type  I or P.

Now start upload one document and save DIR .  again open the same document from cv02n and try to save the DIR . Definetly system will direct you to change the document status with next level of status

Like wise repeate untill document status reaches 'FR'  released ( as per screen shot above) nothing but your document version 00 completed with perfectly . Finally system will shows  document status option with GREEN signal.

After few days if you wants to update the document with new ideas than you need to go with new version. For this put the same document details on CV01N and hit ENTER . Follow the steps You will get new version ..i.e 01   . System will create version in sequence manner. If you provide also it won't accept.

Hi Chandu,

I did the changes as per your recommendation.

I use CV01N and create the initial document with IW status.

I try to make changes through CV02N, the system asks me to change the status (i.e. 'FR'), however the system accepts the changes to the document. Now in the next document status (FR), we can't make any changes and we've to go through version but the document was changed at version 'FR' status initially...please see below
