Hello,
Someone asked me about the fiel Sort String in a BOM. I have seen it in a BOM layout but never know how this works and how to use it. I've read a little about it but not confident that I grasp a full understanding of it.
Could somebody please explain how this field is used and the benefits of using it? I would appreciate it if you could present a concrete example with a step by step so I could comprehend it well.
Thanks,
GIE

Hi - In the standard R/3 System, items are sorted in ascending order of item number. However, you can change this sort sequence while you are processing a BOM.
You can enter a 'sort string' to indicate a certain type of material and use it to sort the BOM components when viewing theBOM. Sort string (field SORTF) is a text field and you can enter any values that logically makes sense to your sort sequence.
for E.g. - You can call some materials as class A, some as B and some as C. now you can use the sort string to list all A class items and so on.
Hope this helps

Pradeep
