Hi,

Please let me know what the best and how to maintain material code for steel industry, requirement is code should be grade wise and composition wise ex- SS 316 (Ni 2%, c 1% etc).They want the reporting as per composition, i.e how much Nickel procured in a month,,please suggest

Dear,

SAP can allow us to make material code may be upto 40 digits. For maintaining material code whenever specification, technicality etc changes u should change the material code (that means u dont need to create a separate material code for material brands or supplier's name for material).

In your case you should try to get maximum data for various combinations of %'s, then divide material code into various categories and then make a code.

But I feel, there are various other ways to get procurement data of material used to manufacturing of steel and no need to make separate material code to track procurement of raw material.
