How to restrict MARA tables within plant level. We want to maintain MARA field for different plants with various values. Is this SAP limitation in that .For ex Storage Cognition we wants to maintain different values for various plants .How to achieve it?

Request clarification before answering.
MARA is standard table from SAP, its not recommend for changes, its better you copy the table and name it ZMARA than custom it, or check if you can combine with MARD or MARC to get your query.

Hi,
why you want to change in MARA table. MARA is client data specific & if you want to define condition at plant level then use the table MARC.
Cause if you use MARA table then no of entries will be increase
Thanx

Nick,
what is the business functionality?
We also have created a extra field in MARA for a perticular purpose...
With std SAP MARA field cannot be maintianed with plant specific data.

Hi Nick,
Not sure whether it answers ur question, one of my previous client had this kind of situation.. For this specific field we had change Storage Condition to specify at plant level. and then with the help of technical team we had maintained a different class in T142 which will direct it read from not SAP import...
Customizing table, maintenance only by cust., not SAP import
Other thing i have noticed some people suggest create a storage condition specific to storage loc/plant u wanted and add in the dropdown ..any way u will have very limited materials in this category u can handle without modifying table properties.
Hope this helps

Hi Nick,
There are certain fields like storage condition which are maintained by standard SAP at client level even though appears in the views like storage location. This really makes us crazy. Even though we wish that to be available and maintainable for each storage location (or plant ) separately, the functionality doesn't allow. As such material master table modification is not really recommended and by doing so, anyway, we can not guarantee 100% of associated functionality will work fine. So, such a situation may better be handled via Z-tables with extra checks required in built there.
Regards

Also keep in mind, the table MARA is not Plant Specific but basic data. As pointed out above the tables MARC, MARD, and MBEW are plant specific and are maintained by the other Views from the Material Master, such as MRP, Purchaisng, General Plant Data, WM, Accounting, etc.
