Duplicate material code

Hi MM Experts,

Let me know how to avoid duplicity of material based on material descrition?

I want that whenever new material is created we should have tool to check based on the material description to avoid duplicity.

Dear,

There is no such kind of option..

Always search first against description..

You can be specific in terms of product code or manufacturer part no.

go for avoiding duplicacy in terms of part no. it will automatically reduced the duplicacy in description..

I think the best way which I have found to avoid the duplicity of material code is put the manufacturer part number in the material master . This is the only key parameter on the basis of which we can search the item code before creating any new item code .

Hi,

Yes when you use manufacturing part number then we can avoid the duplicate Material numbers. But to some extend only. You can have 2 SAP materials for 1 Manufacturing number also.

You can make the material number internally generated. so that the same material number cannot be created again.

What is the difference between Vendor part number maintained in Info record and Material part number in material master .

Can we use Vendor part number for search in material master to create new code for avoiding duplicity?
