Hi Guys,
I have set up the system to check for material availability when a production order is created, and again when it is released.
But I want the system to check material availability for all open production orders in the system periodically. Maybe once a day or once an hour. I do not want to go into mass processing, select these orders and then click on Availability check. It should automatically do an ATP check.
I am trying to setup a background job. But i feel something I am doing is wrong. I do not see the system running this check. Can someone please give me the steps of setting this job.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
If you are using COHV transaction, you can create variant and schedule a job and set it in back ground as per your requirement.

Hi Srinivas,
I have created a variant using COHV. But i am not sure if my background job is working.
In COHV screen, I go to "execute job in Bakground" and set it to immediate and hourly. But I dont think it is running!
Is it the right place to schedule this job? Or do I have to go to SPRO to schedule this variant job?
Hello Sandeep,
You want to make sure that the Mass Processing tab on COHV is properly filled out. You'll need to set the following in your variant:
Function: Material availability check
Execute Function: Execute function immediately
Function Parameters
Scope of Processing
Reset Availability Data: Checked
Scope of Process: Individual check per material according to check group
Hope this helps,
Otto
Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for your response! I am able to schedule this job.
I have one final question about Scope of processing in COHV.
1. Individual check per material according to checking group
2. ATP Check for all materials
I want to use one of the above options. which is better? I am checking for all open planned and production orders in the system. And there is a check box "Reset availability Data", what does this really do? Is it important that I keep this checked?
Thanks
I recommend using scope of processing option 1, because it includes (or ignores) planned independent requirements according to the master data settings. Option 2 always ignores planned independent requirements, no matter what the master data says. I suppose it depends upon whether or not you want to schedule around or ignore forecast demand.
There are several circumstances that cause automatic material availability checks. As these occur, component quantities are confirmed as available, which effectively keeps other orders from reserving the same material. When you "Reset Availability Data", you clear out all reservation confirmations, so that all inventory is now available for use again. You set this indicator if you want to entirely re-plan your production order selection. Leave the indicator blank if you want to retain the reservations already confirmed, and only check availability for open requirements.
Thanks Otto,
Great information from your side!
If I have checked the "Firm Planned order" box while running this job, does it mean that only the orders that have all components available will be firmed? I do not want to firm the ones that have one or two components missing.
And if I have firmed a planned order and materials are reserved to it, is there a way to delete these reservations and maybe the planned order as well?
Thanks again for all your help.
Sandeep,
I would expect the "Firm Planned Order" box to only firm planned orders that pass the material availability check, meaning that all materials are available. You should test this in your system to be sure.
I should clarify the point on reservations. Material reservations are created for production orders, but not for planned orders. In CO09 you will see reservations for production orders and dependant requirements for planned orders. Both serve the same basic purpose.
You cannot delete reservations without also deleting the production order that they peg to. Similarly, you cannot remove dependant requirements without also deleting the planned order that they peg to.
You can delete planned orders in MD01 or MD02 by using the fully regenerative planning key with planning mode "3". I do recommend caution here, you should rarely have to replan everything. Generally, you should be using net change planning, where slight adjustments are made as necessary. You can delete planned orders individually with MD12.

Otto,
I am facing an issue with collective availability check for planned orders using MDVP. When I select the firming indicator it firms even those planned orders which have components missing. I too was assuming that only those Planned Orders that have 100% component availability will be confirmed, however that is not the case. Is there any config that can be changed to address this issue? That is to force the system to only firm those Planned Orders that have 100% component availability.
Regards.

Hello,
Can you tell me how did you set up the system to check for material availabilty, for each planned order created ?
Is it working in every kind of creation (MD11, MF50, ...) ?
Thanks for your help.
