Installing GitHub Copilot in Eclipse ADT and Connecting it to Enterprise GitHub (GHE)

As you already know that GitHub Copilot brings AI-powered code assistance directly into Eclipse ADT, helping developers write code faster and improve productivity.

While this may be a basic setup for those already familiar with configuring GitHub Enterprise (GHE) in Eclipse ADT, I thought it would be helpful to share the steps for anyone getting started.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that:

  • Eclipse ADT version 2024-09 or later.
  • An active GitHub Copilot license assigned by your organization.
  • Access to your organization's GitHub Enterprise (GHE.com) environment.

Step 1: Install GitHub Copilot

  1. Open Eclipse ADT.
  2. Navigate to Help → Eclipse Marketplace.
  3. eclipse marketplaceeclipse marketplaceSearch for GitHub Copilot.
  4. Install the official GitHub Copilot plugin.

Accept the required agreements and restart Eclipse when prompted.

Step 2: Configure GitHub Enterprise

  1. Navigate to the Copilot settings section.copilot in eclipsecopilot in eclipse

  3. Enter your organization's GitHub Enterprise URL in the GitHub Enterprise Authentication Endpoint field.
    Example: https://abcd.ghe.com

Use the URL provided by your organization.
    Points to remember
If you do not change the enterprise URL endpoint, copilot will navigate you to the default GitHub URL https://github.com - I was struggling to check this being a beginner"
"Also please check your GitHub enterprise URL endpoint before adding it here"

Step 3: Sign In

  1. Start GitHub Copilot sign-in processScreenshot 2026-10-08 130504.png

  2. Follow the authentication prompts.
  3. If a device code is displayed, copy the code and complete the sign-in process in your browser.
  4. Sign in using your corporate credentials (or single sign-on) and authorize GitHub Copilot.

Step 4: Verify the Connection

Once authentication is complete:

  • Return to Eclipse and confirm that GitHub Copilot is connected.
  • Open a source file and verify that Copilot provides code suggestions and completions.

Working Example

I am using the below prompt for demonstrating the working:
"Create an ABAP method for a purchase order approval scenario using modern ABAP 7.5+ syntax. The method should accept a purchase order amount and approval status, validate that the amount is greater than zero, and determine whether approval is required based on a configurable threshold. Handle invalid inputs and explain the business logic. Also suggest suitable ABAP Unit test cases covering approved, pending approval, and invalid scenarios. Use generic types and dummy data without referencing any client-specific tables or objects."

you can easily access the chat history if need to check/work

here is the result from the prompt which you can directly add to your file (check before using obviously) or use the 'insert into editor' button

Conclusion

With GitHub Copilot successfully installed and connected to Enterprise GitHub, you can start leveraging AI-powered code suggestions, code generation, and developer assistance directly within Eclipse ADT to accelerate your development workflow.
